Per the interviews and survey responses, we discovered that populations from 22~30 years old are generally tired of COVID-19 restrictions and miss the fun activities.
How might we help them find a safe, efficient and entertaining event so those seeking excitement during the pandemic will be motivated enough to attend a no-contact festival?
We create a website to provide event and ticket information, and an app for attendees to use it in the event for entrance, food ordering and social chat.
Each group can find their dedicated area to park their car and distance with other groups. User can have a chance to socialize with other groups by finding other attendees in the map and have interactions such as messaging and sending food/drink before the event starts or between each performance.
The drone delivery can help attendees reduce the possibility to expose in the danger of Covid-19.
All attendees use the QR code as their E-ticket. Before the user attends the event, they need to register on the app and provide Covid-19 vaccination record in order to enter the event thru fast lane. Without the vaccination record, attendees need to wait in line for quick test result even though they have the Zone 1 ticket with designated check-in time. The event encourages everyone to upload their vaccination card to avoid waiting and get additional discount.
67% of people would like to view ticket information on a desktop or laptop
We started our research with Zane Hassel, a 25 year old party animal who is tired of restrictions and needs to find a way to let loose and rock out.
• Safety concerns regarding COVID-19
• Their current entertainment methods and if/how they changed due to the pandemic
• What would motivate them to attend a no-contact music festival?
• What their ideal no-contact music event would look like?
See interview plan here.
We planned and conducted 6 interviews with users similar to our proto-persona with the objective to determine what motivates individuals to attend a no-contact music festival during the COVID pandemic.
Our survey has 80% of people ages from 22-30, showing more than 33% of the people miss the fun activities. Over 48% of people want to have the event inside the vehicle or a fenced area.
Ideal Experience: designated space for parties, drive-in event, sufficient distance, tailgate parking
Safety measures includes: health screening, masking required, food delivery
Frustration includes: high death rate, life change, no more movies and concerts
Motivation includes: loving food, friend gathering, popular musician, show proof of vaccination
Looking at competitors that offered similar no-contact events gave us inspiration as to what to include in our own designs : A desktop design to order tickets and get important faqs and directions and An app to use during the festival to order food and socialize.
During one-on-one interviews and through online survey responses, we discovered that people are generally tired of COVID restrictions and have exhausted all of their at-home entertainment options. While they are still very concerned about their health and safety during the pandemic, they are searching for a safe, engaging, smoothly run event where COVID safety measures are implemented in a way that will keep them safe but won't prevent them from having a good time. How might we create a website that provides information about a no-contact music festival while reassuring attendees that the event will be safe, efficient and entertaining so that those seeking excitement during the pandemic will be motivated enough to attend a no-contact festival?

From the I like, I wish, what if map, we brainstormed features and ideas we wanted to include in our design:
From the feature prioritization matrix, we highlighted key features to include in our design:
With a clear goal of what we’re building, we took inspirations from different music festival sites. On our style guide, you can see that we’re trying to create an electric, exciting, nightlife kind of feel, and retro style through our visual language.
Our storyboard shows how Zoey is bored at home, due to COVID, and begins searching for something fun/ safe to do and then finds Safe and Sound music drive in festival.
Drone food delivery starts with Zoey opening the app, clicking the “Food” icon, browsing the menu to make selections, confirming the quantity and price, paying with her card saved during the ticketing process, then confirming her order!
Based on feedback from user testing we made the change:
Re-designed the food ordering process to select items first then confirm item quantity
Based on feedback from user testing we made the following changes:
1. Added the username to the food order confirmation to make it clear who the order was going to
2. Added Online/Offline status for user profiles
3. User Profile screen iterations based on feedback
4. Changed food button to food/drink button when ordering for another user
